In secondary school, there is a system. In some schools, the 'authorities' (teachers esp) are just figureheads, while in others they are the totalatarians. In those schools where some teachers are mere figureheads, you have to wonder who rules them? [I'm not implying teachers are not doing their job. It's just that they don't seem to do the right thing]
If i were to come up with a caste system in most of the 'average' neighbourhood schools, it'll be like this, from the top to bottom.
'Those' people
Average schoolkid
Nerds
'Those' wannabes
Unfortunately, most of 'Those' people belong to the top CCA. As in, some schools it's soccer, others maybe basketball. Usually it has something to do with sports.
And, 'Those' people get all the privilages. They get punished by teachers for an offence, and another student gets punished for the same offence. BUT, they do not get any worse punishment when they continue to flout the rules, unlike the others. Also, most offences will be shortened, as if gaining glory for the school in sports is a shoo-in for the 'Principal Pardon'. This certainly does not bode well with the others. However, nothing can be done, as the others are powerless.
At times, these people seem to be even higher than the teachers. This is extremely disturbing to those talented ones but not belonging to 'Those people', therefore not eligible to be part of the 'Top' CCA. You have to climb the ladder by one step. Nobody will let you jump over 'Those people' without being one of them.
Something has to be done. Talents in schools everywhere are being wasted, as students get demoralised. This can certainly change a student's perspective of life. Teenagers should be given the right to live, especially talented ones who are not one of 'Them'. The whole 'System' is flawed.
Merely.
